22 अप्रैल 2025 को जम्मू और कश्मीर के पहलगाम क्षेत्र में हुए आतंकी हमले में 26 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 17 अन्य घायल हो गए। यह हमला भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में नागरिकों पर हुआ सबसे घातक आतंकी हमला माना जा रहा है, जो 2008 के मुंबई हमले के बाद सबसे बड़ा है ।

The attack took place in the Baisaran Valley, located a few kilometres from Pahalgam. The attackers, four in number, opened fire indiscriminately on the tourists. The dead include 25 Indians and 1 Nepali national. Several foreign nationals were also among the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to return home, cutting short his Saudi Arabia visit and held emergency meetings with top officials. US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with India. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has also condemned this terrorist act

The attack has taken place amid growing tourism in Kashmir, which has also hit the local economy. Hotels and other businesses have been affected by the return of a large number of tourists. Local organizations have called for a strike to protest the incident.
